Our Approach to Achieving Decarbonisation

This project addresses the decarbonisation of key steps of the process industry, proposing sustainable ways of obtaining products of major industrial interest from alternative resources and renewable energy by means of applying three Key Enabling Technologies: electrification, advanced catalysis, and modelling & digitalisation.

To achieve this objective, the COOKET project employs a comprehensive methodology divided into six work packages (WP) that collectively support its objectives through a blend of research, development, and strategic activities. Initiating with WP1, the project management and coordination are meticulously handled to ensure quality throughout the project’s lifecycle.

The technical journey begins with WPs 2, 3, and 4, which operate concurrently to explore the key enabling technologies selected for the project: electrification, catalysis, and modelling. These work packages feed into one another, creating an iterative feedback loop to enhance research and development. WP2 focuses on developing essential components for electrification technologies, including electrochemical cell components and reactors for electric heating, which are validated through continuous experimentation and collaboration with other WPs. Meanwhile, WP3 is dedicated to refining catalysts for chemical conversions, ensuring their integration with the electrification technologies tested in WP5. WP4 provides a transversal methodology by employing advanced modelling techniques to optimise reactor design and operational parameters, leveraging high-fidelity multiphysics models. As the project progresses, WP5 plays a pivotal role in integrating and validating these technologies within advanced reactors to test chemical processes under electrified conditions, examining efficiency, sustainability, and flexibility across various parameters. Complementary to these efforts, WP6 emphasises communication and dissemination to share insights and results with stakeholders, ensuring the project's innovations are effectively communicated and adopted by the broader scientific and industrial communities. Through this structured and collaborative approach, COOKET is set to advance the fields of electrification and catalysis, achieving significant breakthroughs in sustainability and process optimisation.
